Online Dictionaries

From Kenn Ng, a visitor to my web site:

"I haven¹t seen any discussion regarding online dictionaries or word lookups
using various software tools. Some suggestions:

WordWeb A freebie download www.wordweb.com

Acronym Finder Online web page www.acronymfinder.com

TheFreeDictionary Online web page www.thefreedictionary.com/

Dictionary.com Online web page www.dictionary.com

Word Menu Lexicon software www.wordmenu.com

Merriam Webster Online web page www.m-w.com

I use all of these from time to time and have my favorites. WordWeb and Word
Menu (directed toward writers) can be used off-line while Acronym Finder is
very good for finding acronyms which are too numerous everywhere.

I¹ve enjoyed using your web site and have found it useful and keep coming
back for moreŠ."

Hotmail, Yahoo increase e-mail storage limit

Interesting that Google's 1 GB of free storage with their new free e-mail service, Gmail, has put pressure on Yahoo and Hotmail. Yahoo has increased
the limit for their free service from 4 MB to. 100. Hotmail will increase from 2 MB to 250 in July.

If anyone is reading my blog and would like to try Gmail, send me an e-mail at jkarpen@lisco.com. I have three invitations that I'm allowed to pass out.

Note that the service won't be available to the general public until later this year.

Google Labs previews forthcoming services

Keep an eye on Google Labs. This is a page that lets you preview new Google services. I'm excited to see that they're starting Google Groups 2,a service similar to Yahoo Groups.

Thanks to Steve Guich for the tip.

Google's Gmail is impressive

I've been using Google's Gmail, and I like it. Early on they got a lot of attention because of two features:

-1 gigabyte of free e-mail storage
-ads in your e-mail related to the content

These things overlooked the fact that Google has done a good job of taking a fresh approach to e-mail, organizing it in a different way than is
customary.
